About the Director:

Denice has always loved the arts, saying “Music has always been a huge part of my life from very early childhood.  I started piano lessons at the age of five, and I come from a very musical family.  All of my siblings can play piano, sing, or play guitar.  Family gatherings always included a variety of instruments and singing.  I count it a privilege to be able to teach and inspire others in music.”

Denice D. Parkhurst is a celebrated music director, having worked 26 years as a choral educator in the public school system, ten of which were spent in Springdale schools. Mrs. Parkhurst received her B.M.E. from John Brown University, M.M.E. from the University of Arkansas, National Board Certified for choral music early adolescence through young adulthood, and has English as a second language endorsement on her teaching certificate. Mrs. Parkhurst is currently the 6th and 7th grade music educator at Helen Tyson Middle School in Springdale.

Mrs. Parkhurst is currently the artistic director of Arts Center of the Ozarks’ Adult Choirs and was previously the artistic director for the Greater Freeport Community Chorus.  Mrs. Parkhurst enjoys accompanying a variety of performing ensembles in the area including her position as pianist at the Berry Street Baptist Church. She has a private studio where she teaches piano and voice.  Mrs. Parkhurst is a member of the Springdale Music Club, American Choral Directors Association, and the Arkansas Music Educators Association.  She lives in Springdale with her husband Douglas and son Berkley.
